Gordon Brown meets learners at Stephenson College
Prime Minister Gordon Brown visited Stephenson College in November as part of a whole day where Ministers visited the region and then attended a meeting of the Regional Economic Cabinet, which was formed in October 2008 to bring leadership to the region and to address current economic pressures.
While the Prime Minister was at the college he met with Engineering Apprentices, students on the 14-19 Diploma (Engineering), Higher Education students and people benefiting for the 6 Month Offer, which was the main theme of the visit.
He also met with employers and external organisations that work with the college, these included; Volvo, Cummins, Leicestershire County Council, Leicestershire Primary Care Trust and the Trades Union Congress.
Gordon Brown said: "I was delighted to visit Stephenson College. The facilities are fantastic and the support for students excellent. It is great to see teachers, students and employers so enthused by their future prospects and clearly enjoying their work. Stephenson College is leading the way in providing vital skills for our young people and the country. The courses and Apprenticeships on offer ensure a bright future for the students and it is essential that we continue to invest and back young people in Britain."
The Prime Minister was at Stephenson College as part of the Cabinet in the Region project, which sees high profile politicians visit constituents. The main focus of the visit was getting young people back into work and training during the economic downturn.
