Job seekers retrain to gain employment
New College Nottingham (ncn) is running a series of skills courses, funded through the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), to help unemployed people to retrain and get back into the workforce.
Courses in retail, security, health and social care, business, hospitality and catering and construction are available to individuals over the age of 19 who have been receiving Job Seekers Allowance for six months or more.
21-year-old Claire Coxon recently completed a 12-week work focussed training programme in health and social care and has since been offered a job at Hawthorne Nursing Home in Bestwood Village.
Claire comments: "It was a really daunting experience coming back to college but I was pleasantly surprised to see others in the same situation as me. My confidence had been knocked whilst looking for work but everyone at ncn was really supportive and I now can`t wait to get started in my new job."
Michael Motley, Director of ncn at work, comments: "The training modules are designed to enable individuals to enter work with further training or enter full time education at Level 2 or above. The College follows individuals through into the workplace and offers additional training while employed to enhance skills further."
