Training Quality Standard
The New Standard for employer responsiveness will be given the permanent name of Training Quality Standard (TQS). Once providers have achieved the standard they can also achieve a status of Excellence in one or more sector specific areas.
In early May Skills Minister David Lammy hosted a conference showcasing the latest developments in employer-focused FE. This was an opportunity for providers and employers to celebrate successful working relationships and for the sector to bring these developments to a wider audience. The conference also officially launched the TQS brand and highlighted the latest developments. Full branding guidance and support will be made available for providers.
Training Quality Standard - Accreditation Bodies
An advert went live on the LSC's bravo e-tendering system on Friday 21 March (see https://lsc.bravosolution.com/web/login.shtml) calling for organisations to register an interest in joining and then replacing CFE as TQS accreditation bodies. They will need to register with BRAVO to be able to see the advert.
The TQS awarding panel met on 27 March and were able to accredit 10 more organisations with the standard. Derby College was one of the first 26 training providers from across the country to be accredited with the new standard and the first in the East Midlands.
With more then 450 employers taking on the College's training packages and 94% of last year's clients stating the training was "very good or excellent", the College certainly deserves the new accreditation.
One well known name using the College's training packages is Argos. The company's Barton-under-Needwood distribution centre wanted to raise general and specialist skills levels among its staff.
Pat Middleton, Argos Site Trainer at Barton-under-Needwood says:
"Argos has been working with Derby College since 2006. Since then nearly 70 employees at our distribution centre in Barton-under-Needwood have gained nationally recognised qualifications, ranging from NVQ Warehousing and Distribution, which is specific to many employees' job roles, to more generic qualifications in Literacy and IT.
