Teams of top Chinese chefs, who will be cooking for athletes and spectators at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, visited Loughborough College in March for lessons in Western-style cooking.

They were mastering the art of British favourites such as the traditional Sunday roast, full-English breakfasts and classic puddings such as jam roly poly, spotted dick and bread & butter pudding.

Janet Spavin, international manager at the College said: "The Chinese authorities are sending their chefs to colleges around the world to give them the skills required to cater for the global mix of visitors at the Olympics.

"We were delighted to have been selected to train the chefs. We are sure that the Olympian Chefs will return to Beijing with many new and interesting culinary skills under their belts."

Janet added: "We have always enjoyed very strong international links, hosting students from across the world.

"The catering team at the college have an excellent reputation with students achieving competition success including, most recently, returning with a fantastic array of medals from the Welsh Culinary Championships.

"The Chinese chefs were in good hands! I am also sure that those wanting to enjoy some traditional English dishes at the Beijing games will be in for a treat!"
