Moulton College in Northamptonshire is the first FE college in the country to be awarded 'Rugby Football Union Beacon Status',which reflects the outstanding developments, facilities and standard of rugby provision at the college.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has launched the Beacon College Award to encourage Rugby Union in FE colleges and to promote best practice by setting minimum standards throughout the whole spectrum of rugby provision.

Taking an innovative and proactive approach, Moulton started work on the Award whilst it was still in development. Students are already seeing the benefits through the high quality coaching, college facilities and the broad range of academic courses on offer. The Beacon College Award also recognises the links and partnerships that Moulton has developed and it will help to promote rugby more widely in the local community.

Chris Moody, principal at Moulton College says: "We're delighted to be the first college nationally to achieve the RFU Beacon Award. It reflects the rapid progress that has been made by our joint rugby academy under our director of rugby, Jon Phillips. "The strong partnership that we are building with Northampton Saints Rugby Football Club is key to the academy's success and the experience that we are providing for our students. We hope that it will prove of equal benefit in the future to both the club and to sport countywide."
