Success for Leicester advisers
One of the group has since gone on to national recognition for his achievements. David Barnett is registered blind and profoundly deaf and has just received the LSC Learning Works Award at this year's Adult Learners' Awards ceremony.
The advisers undertook their training with CAST - Careers Advice Services and Training - based in Leicester. CAST is the specialist training division of nextstep, with particular expertise in information, advice and guidance studies.
Advisers in this field provide support with jobs, training and courses, helping people to find work or gain appropriate qualifications. Many of those who train with CAST are employed in the voluntary and community sectors, working with both adults and young people. The focus of the work is very much on helping people who would otherwise have difficulties to get into jobs or learning.
Rachel Shuttleworth, course tutor, explained the benefits of the training: "This is a nationally recognised qualification and so will help to further an individual's career prospects. The adviser will also be better skilled and more confident, and in turn this benefits the organisation they work for. Finally of course the client will receive better support from someone who has the necessary skills and experience to offer a quality service."
